Ranger School is no walk in the park (well, actually it is a verrry long walk in at least one national park). The combination of little food and sleep deprivation pushes everyone to the edge, turns your mind to mush, and makes you incredibly prone to injuries and illness. I can certainly say that I hit a wall in city week/Darby phase and came dangerously close to getting recycled.

Lots of Rangers get recycled for injuries, failed patrols, pneumonia, and cellulitus. I knew several guys who were recycled at least two times, and remember the Ranger NCOIC of Darby when I was there, MSG Black, who spent @ six months in Ranger School because he had been recycled in multiple phases of the course for injuries & illnesses.

There is no dis-honor in failing to graduate Ranger School, and do-overs are certainly not easy for anyone — and they don’t give you the tab for failing.

V/R Bill (Ranger Class 10-87)

Hah...old timer I see. They had Desert phase back then....Dunno why they never brought it back considering all the patrolling and work in AFPAK
