I can’t give Cruz a pass on this one or twist myself into a pretzel to make excuses. I just don’t see this as a brilliant move or what the point would be of delaying the inevitable. Why would Cruz be worried about being called extreme? He’s been called extreme on a daily basis for how long now?
To me he risked losing more conservative support than he would gain by this.
I thought that the Congress already had oversight over treaties? Or is it the Senate? I guess I’m one of those that just doesn’t understand how government works.
Every day that goes by things just get more and more depressing. I really do believe that this country is just increasing it’s speed towards the edge of the cliff on a daily basis. I don’t think there is any stopping this train.
I’m not jumping on the “Cruz lost my vote today” yet. But it’s a black mark against him for me. I don’t know what else to do. I can’t just roll over and give up but it sure is disheartening. He still has more positives on his side for me than negatives and I surely don’t believe he wants Iran to get nukes.
Just remember one thing. All these people who have already thrown Cruz under the bus marched their little arses into a voting booth and voted for Mitt Romney and have defended that choice for over 2 years. If they can manage to supplicate themselves to an abortion backing liberal, they can damn well get a couple minor gaffes from Cruz whose record is almost perfect.
All of you and most on this thread do not understand the politics of this whole issue.
But I am not criticizing you or anyone else here or putting anyone down in any manner although it may seem that I am.
The politics here are damned convoluted. There’s really not much Ted Cruz or anyone else can do to make sense of it because Mitch McConnell is a master of confusion and half-truths and this bill reflects his deception.
Here’s what Ted Cruz said about the bill yesterday just before he voted NO on cloture which is actually the more important vote.
Thus, Corker-Cardin motion of disapproval reverses the ordinary presumptions. Instead of the President needing 67 Senate votes to ratify the Iran deal, it would now require 67 votes to stop an Iran deal.

To get clarity and I’ll try to make it short, here’s a modified repost:
The Bill as it is written cedes treaty authority of the US Senate in a convoluted manner. Usually for treaties, the US Senate will pass or not pass a treaty. The President doesn’t have a say in the process of passing or not passing it. The President can have negotiations with the Senate but the authority for approval or disapproval of a treaty always lies within the Senate as stated in the Constitution and it requires 2/3’s to approve/ratify a treaty.
What McConnell has done is to take this evaluation of a treaty and change the rules on how it is voted on and the process of making it law. Rather than the Senate having the final say over this treaty, McConnell has made it so that Obama will have the final say and if he doesn’t like the Iran resolution passed by the Senate and sent to him, then he can VETO it.
Excuse me. Veto? Veto the disapproval of a treaty?
That’s what McConnell has foisted on everyone; damn him.
NOW AND NEXT ... the Senate will get the Iran plan from Obama and they will “review it”. And after they review it they will pass a resolution of approval or disapproval and SEND IT TO OBAMA FOR HIS SIGNATURE! WTF?
IMPORTANTLY, while the Senate is doing the “reviewing”, Obama’s Iran plan lies in suspense pending the deliberation of the Senate. IT IS THE INTEREST OF AMERICA’S FUTURE TO MAKE SURE THIS PERIOD OF SUSPENSE IS DELAYED AS LONG AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. And that is why Ted Cruz voted YES so that he can get in there and delay this son of a bitch to the maximum extent possible.
I know that Ted Cruz is loved by many wealthy Jewish Americans and also by a huge majority of Israelis. I am sure he huddled up with them and agreed to delay this son of a bitch because this vote is for the future existence of Israel. Netanyahu has been in the news everyday this week about this vote and he and Cruz talk frequently.
What the Israelis are cooking up is not yet known but Mark Levin said this afternoon there is hard evidence of Obamacare exemption fraud by Congress with Rand Paul, Boehner and McConnell implicated.
I think we are going to see some hard ball play out here. McConnell must be shown the door. He’s too goddam dangerous. He really pisses me off.
That’s where everyone’s anger should be focused, on McConnell, not Cruz. Don’t let McConnell divide the ranks of conservatives over Cruz. McConnell’s the focus here, not Cruz.
