Exactly two months after the latest Warren Buffett-owned BNSF train derailed near the spot where the Galena river meets the Mississippi, resulting in a huge fire and the evacuation of all homes in a one mile radius, moments ago another of Buffett's BNSF oil trains derailed, this time near the town of Heimdal, North Dakota, resulting in the same outcome.
According to the Bismark Tribune, the town in Wells County was evacuated Tuesday morning after a train full of oil tanker cars derailed and burned about a mile and half east of here.
...
For those concerned that these countless and destructive BNSF derailments could lead to something, here is one photo which explains better than 1000 words ever could, why the outcome of all these pipelines trains exploding will lead to absolutely nothing.
Wells County Emergency Manager Tammy Roehrich said the BNSF Railway oil tanker train derailed around 7:30 a.m., setting six oil tanker cars on fire.
...
As a reminder, in 2013 another oil train, also owned by Buffett's Burlington Northern, derailed and led to the evacuation of the town of Casselton, and people living in a 5 mile radius.
The 30 or so residents of Heimdal were evacuated in response to the derailment. All were staying with family or friends, Roehrich said.
Firefighters remained on the scene battling the blaze as of 9 a.m.
KFYR TV adds fire crews from Harvey, Fessenden and Maddock have all been called in to fight the fire. An official with Harvey Fire says at least 5 oil tanker cars are burning.

When a rich guy waffles, the earth shakes
My understanding of this train is that it was “empty” and returning for another load.
This train was struck by a pickup.
Gee, it’s SO much safer than a pipeline, or so they told us.
I dunno, I’ve never seen a pipeline derail.
And, traffic collisions are more likely around urban, or at least settled, areas.
Or, a truck run into it
Blew up real good for an empty (unless that is an erroneous pix at ZeroHedge)
“I swear, that pipeline cut me off!”
There was no info I could glean on the train's direction from the pic. Yep, it and some spilled cargo are burning real gud in the pic.
Looks like they got it out fairly quickly.

BTW, a web search for “pipeline explosion evacuation” will give you quite a few, often not the whole (much larger) town, but at least as many people.
Gee, maybe something like a pipeline would be better? Nah... /sarc
The empty’s are far more flammable then the loaded cars. I use to drive a gas tanker in DC, when it is empty it is filled with vapors and is in a very volatile state. In the loaded car it makes a mess and a nasty fire but no explosion.
No, that is not reasonable.
These stories never get to the why of the matter. Why are these trains derailing more often? Speeding? Criminal environmentalist freaks sabotaging the tracks? Something is going on with trains in the past 6 or 7 years since the Obozo nightmare started.
