A Baltimore police officer charged over the death of Freddie Gray has attempted to compel the Baltimore states attorney Marilyn Mosby to produce the knife Gray was arrested for carrying, contending that it was an illegal weapon and as such Grays arrest was justified.

No, what I have is reasonable cause that they should be charged and sent to trial. You don’t have any esculpalary evidence either. You and I only have media talking points and leaked talking points from people with agendas. So if you disagree with my reasoning, show us your reasoning rather than a pithy little setup line to a straw man argument consisting of talking points and media leaks.
Baltimore city code says a person can’t carry or possess any knife “with an automatic spring or other device for opening and/or closing the blade, commonly known as a switch-blade knife.”
Buck makes a Machete....
I saw the empty package which had held a Buck Machete.... laying in front of a convenience store some months ago.
The knife I usually carry daily is a Victorinox. It is a step up from the “Spartan” but I can’t recall the exact name. Of the maybe two dozen Swiss Army knives I own including the huge Swisschamp, I like it best.
I probably use the toothpick more than any other tool but the screwdrivers get a lot of use too. The main blade also gets a lot of use but for utilitarian purposes. I use a walking stick and it is a Cold Steel Irish Blackthorne. It would be an effective weapon assuming I really knew how to use it. I actually don’t but could probably improvise.
I do have a few high quality assisted opening knives, all bought on clearance. I can open them fairly easily but not like those who are good with them. The main reason is arthritis in my knuckles.
Fine, I’ll assume that that’s correct and that Freddie indeed had an illegal knife just for arguments sake. Not believing it was illegal until I see it or there is a legal judgement on it.
Congratulations, the charges of kidnapping (illegal arrest) are dropped.
Now, what about the fact that they took him into custody alive, and he arrived at the hospital essentially dead all while shackled and in the back of a van.
What possible excuse can you have to claim that’s not suspicious and doesn’t need further investigation?
mosby is nauseatingly racist and stupid. the cops will get off and there will be more riots.
Now a machete is one of the few things I actually could really use well when I was young. I still have a bunch but haven’t used one in a couple of years.
The best ones I have used and that includes some very expensive makes, is the ordinary U.S. Military surplus ones made by Ontario. The only thing I do to them is tape the handles with athletic tape so they don’t get slippery when sweaty.
I have to replace the tape occasionally. Even some of the cheap ones made in South America are pretty decent. I have a couple of Collins brand, I think made in Brazil and they are nearly as good as the Ontario.
A machete is the most useful of just about any edged tool. I also prefer a carpenters hatchet to a woodsmans hatchet for use in the woods. They have a much thinner, easier to sharpen blade and cut far easier.
When New York outlawed spring-operated knives, the gangsters just removed the spring. The knife could still open quickly with the flick of a wrist. But was legal. That's why the second part of the law was added. If a defense witness can demonstrate this with the knife or an identical model knife (that's suitably cleaned, polished and lubricated), that part of her case is pretty much over.
Using some lubricant made for fishing reels applied to the pivot also helps overcome the resistance on a spring-assisted knife as well.
I do this with all of my folders.
My EDC SD knife is a Spyderco Civilian, legal in most of California.
4" of nasty, razor sharp VG-10 serrated steel:
Suddenly The Guardian likes knives?
People in Baltimore will always believe in Freddie Gray. He might even get an “unofficial” city holiday.
Theconservativetreehouse.com has audio of the officers requesting medical assistance for Freddie Gray at numerous intervals during transport. This audio of their communications with dispatch completely proves the prosecutors claims that medical assistance was not sought were False!
Cold Steel makes a variety of Machetes.
I prefer the “Kukri” style machete myself.

Ummmmm... "In a motion filed Monday on behalf of Officer Edward Nero, his attorneys believe that the "spring assisted, one hand operated knife" obtained during Gray's April 12 arrest is not in fact legal and therefore, his arrest was justified, reported NBC affiliate WBAL. "
I doubt very much that Officer Nero came up with this idea on his own. (Demonstrating why good lawyers get paid as much as they do.)
Further investigation is fine. Charging the black policeman who drove the van with second-degree depraved-heart murder is hard to prove. What did he do?
I believe you are exactly right. I’m sure the union is challenging this change in policy due to safety issues to the officers. They will win that challenge.
Also, audio of the officers radioing dispatch several times during transport for medical assistance is currently on theconservativetreehouse website. This completely proves the charges against these officers are False!
I have two Cold Steel Kukris. One was expensive the other fairly cheap. I assume they are great fighting knives but have never tried to develop any skill with them.
I personally do not like them for clearing brush etc. The blades are too thick and they are not long enough.
He is a known drug dealer and ran unprovoked from the police. Also, an office has said that Gray was observed making a hand ot hand to hand transaction just before he saw the police.
Not only is the illegal arrest charge falling apart, but audio of communications with dispatch enroute prove that medical assistance was requested for Gray several times. Go to thconservativetreehouse.com to hear the audio.
Okay I give. Guilty of reading the title and skimming the content.
Looking through that Cold Steel site, I was surprised how many machete style knives they make.
I have always thought they made some of the best knives for the money.
