I recently read an astounding article at Science Daily.

From memory...

For more than half of the last 3 million years, the climate has been classified as an “ice age.”

Since almost all human development took place during that period, it’s quite remarkable that our often naked ancestors survived with only natural shelters and primitive tools.

In my mind, I think that all humankind's modern development took place since what I think of as "the last Ice Age." But I'm fuzzy on the number of years and the definitions of glacial periods and ice ages.

Wikipedia puts it this way: "The last glacial period, popularly known as the Ice Age, was the most recent glacial period within the current ice age occurring during the last years of the Pleistocene, from approximately 110,000 to 12,000 years ago. Scientists consider this "ice age" to be merely the latest glaciation event in a much larger ice age, one that dates back over two million years and has seen multiple glaciations."
