You must be too young to remember that before it was going to get too hot, it was going to get too cold. Then when it did not get too cold, it was going to get too hot. So now that it has not gotten too hot, it is going to get too cold.

Apparently this is what happened, two groups of scientists testified before the US government in the 80’s. One group claimed the current cool conditions of the late 70s were caused by a natural cooling cycle. They predicted a mini ice age by 2020. Another group claimed man made climate change would warm the planet over the next few years and cause problems. Well, both sides were right. The El Nino of 1998 caused short term warming. Now we are back to the long term cooling cycle with an mini ice age by 2020. So the science was as settled as good as it could be settled.
