This was a blatant case of politically motivated, prosecutorial over reach. I could see possibly negligent homicide, but 2nd degree murder?? Every judge that I have heard comment on it says that to prove that, they would have to prove intent.

Another thing, the issue of the seat belts. I supervised union employees for over 30 years. Any change in procedures has to be well documented when the employees are notified of that change. If there is no documentation that these officers had been made aware of the new policy, it will be hard to make some of these charges stick. I would not be surprised to learn that the union is challenging this seatbelt policy due to increased safety issues for the officers. When an arrested person is uncooperative or hostile, it is a great risk to an officer to have to enter the van to fasten that seatbelt.
