Rumors have circulated through social media and on some websites that Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old Baltimore man who died April 19 after he was injured while in police custody, had a previous spinal injury that caused his death. The rumors also claim that Gray had spinal fusion surgery not long before his arrest to repair an injury caused by a car accident, which he received an insurance settlement for.

We’ll just have to wait and see what the investigation turns up.
Do you have a credible source for the story that he did have an injury?
At least they’ve put the taxi suit to rest... it was filed by Gray senior, not the deceased son.
yes it was attached to the very top of his spinal cord and often referred to as a brain
Winston Smith and Julia are on a cruise and out of touch. When they return Valerie Jarrett will let us know.
The cops are closing the blue wall of silence to cover their misdeeds. The rioters are thugs and criminals who need to be stopped. The mayor and governor are idiots and Obama is grinning from ear to ear.
The whole thing is disgusting.
Even as a white child of the 60’s, the first thing I buzzing through my small brain was my fathers words, “when the Police tell you do something, do it.”
“You might be right, but you can be dead right.”
Thank you Dad for that, sorry not everyone got the same memo.
At this point, I haven't seen a credible story. Anywhere.
About anything.
Just because I don't believe something doesn't mean that I believe the opposite.
That's screwed up.

I guess if your rights were violated, after years in the courts, you might get a billboard.
I chose life and the ability to right the wrong.
That agrees with some research and comment from a Freeper.

The police need to be open and honest. If the cops caused this man’s death, they need to do hard time. Conservatives need to stop reflexively defending police regardless of the facts.
I place blame solely on the mayor for allowing the mayhem to occur... Ray Nagin in a dress.

This is subject to interpretation by the individual. The black kid who thinks he can outrun the fat white cop is as likely to think that he is standing up to oppression as is Cliven Bundy standing up to the BLM, or Koresh’s folks shooting at the ATF. As far as I’m concerned, throw up your hands, let them book you and then hire an ass-whipping attorney. You’d be surprised how often the cops lose in court, and there’s a lot less blood shed.
No arguement from me. I don’t automatically defend “LEOs”; they aren’t worthy of that level of support.
Yeah... I don’t get it. I will say these police are under constant pressure... both political and social. The same with many of the teachers... there’s an expectation that they should also operate as front line social workers. As a typically middle class white person.. I can tell you that I have family members who have had unfortunate experiences with Maryland county police.
There never was a credible source about the so-called surgery. I did a google at the time that this was posted at FR yesterday and it was nothing but rumors bouncing around inside of the ultra-right echo chamber:

There’s now a bazillion sites debunking it:

Yes, but the governor should have taken command earlier. And the idiot in the White House should have taken over and nationalized the guard if they didn’t. No more allowing thugs to burn down an American city.
