A phased-in, $12-an-hour minimum wage will be proposed Thursday by Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., with Democratic Senate leader Harry Reid and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on hand to offer support.

As many as half or more of the Senate’s 46 Democrats are expected to support the proposal. The $12 wage is higher than the the $10.10-an-hour minimum wage proposed by President Obama.

Once a bipartisan cause — the last minimum wage increase was passed by a Democratic controlled Congress and signed by President Bush — efforts to raise the current $7.25-an-hour federal wage have been blocked in Congress. Speaker John Boehner has refused to allow a House vote.

“John Boehner has never stopped me before,” Murray joked in an interview Wednesday.

If you raise the import tariffs and close the borders to illegals, you’ll create enough jobs that the demand for labor will automatically raise the wages.

Then you avoid the nasty side effects of a minimum wage.

Boehner and House Republicans will cave, there will be a compromise of $11.00/hr and Republicans will beat their chests and brag how conservative they were at stopping the higher increase.

Wasn’t it Gingrich who described moderate Bob Dole’s negotiating skills: if the Dems proposed burning down the Library of Congress, Dole would forge a compromise wherein they would only burn one wing at a time.

Murray is totally useless and has been for years. The federal government screwing around with the minimum wage while the world is afire with black jackasses in this country and their counterparts in the muslim world is sheer insanity.

I’m sure Mitch and Tammy Faye will push it right through. Anything to keep the Dems happy.

Does anybody have a link to the story..some decades ago, when the Democrats passed a tax on luxury yachts..to supposedly “get” the rich, and shortly after, several boat builders closed down, because the rich stopped buying yachts, and several thousand blue collar workers lost their jobs..

Sen. Patty Murray, Democrats to propose $12 federal minimum wage...of course they will -and when it gets rejected as they know it will they'll run around saying that Republicans who vote against it are just trying to help the rich and hurt the poor - it gets so boring - if only they'd get a new playbook......

The Republicans winning and controlling both house of congress and Boner caving are not mutually exclusive of one another. So no, I’m not wrong.

Are you not aware of president Jug Ears’ condescending statement to john McCain when he’d slaughtered him in the 2008 election? Maybe you didn’t get the reference.
