YES! Isn’t it amazing the relief we all feel when someone steps up to do the right thing? She became famous overnight because this country and it’s children are starving for Mom’s like her. Her name is Toya Graham and she may be on O’Reilly tonight.
I wouldn’t call that child abuse at all! Abusive people aren’t at all interested in the well being of their victim. They merely exploit others either physically, mentally, emotionally, verbally, or sexually for their own emotional gratification with no regard for others. Furthermore, their ‘punishment’ of others is exaggerated for the circumstance, as well as excessive for the age and reasoning of the other.
If mom were battering a two year old like that, THEN I’d say Hell YES that’s child abuse.
But at 16 years old, he’s taller than her and more powerful. Physically, he can defend himself. He’s in the open, not trapped in a space he can’t get out of.
Her’s was appropriate for the circumstance, and the size, age, and capabilities of understanding of the kid. She was taking control of an out of control kid and well within her rights and authority to do so.
I would say that this woman dearly LOVES her children.

I’ve seen way too many comments of judgementalism toward her which IS inappropriate AND abusive! Until the facts come out, none of you has ANY idea of what her personal circumstances were nearly 20 years ago when she began to have children.
You don’t know if she did in fact have a very good husband who may have died through no fault of his/her own. You just assume she was a welfare seeking slut, and you denigrate her based on your own unsupported, personal prejudices and mere assumptions. It’s worse than the pot calling the kettle, black and serves NO good purpose.
The fact of the matter is, she is young enough to have aborted each and every one of her children if all she was interested in was play. She could have played the harlot for a pretty penny...a whole hell of a lot more than what a welfare check pays, without half the diapers and tears.

Absolutely! Steps forward deserve our praise and this is the first time we have seen a minority parent doing something to try and save her child from bad behavior toward society which keeps him safe, as well. She loves her boy and does not want to see him dead or in jail.
I applaud what she did, but she is a single Mom with six kids and even admitted she didn’t know all the fathers. That is the problem. Disciplining her 16 year old feral kid while he is rioting is too late to fix the problem. One thing that would address the problem is stable two parent families. This single mom with six kids, likely living on government handouts, is the epitome of why we have lost a generation of young Black kids.

Better that children be physically disciplined at home than by the police. Almost everyone over 40 was physically disciplined as a child and one of the problems today is that parents are afraid to discipline their children and the youth in this society are very narcissistic and disrespectful, as a result of that lack.

Exactly. But the oh-so-sensitive types - including FReepers - want to focus on the 10% so nobody ends up feeling bad, especially parents whose immorality and irresponsibility end up dooming their own offspring.

Part of me agrees with you...she obviously lacked discipline in the past....wonder what she teaches her boys about sex?
It is better for the children if the "male influence" in their home is positive. In this case, Mom seems to have the ability to open the cans of whoop ass all by herself. The most important thing she did was get off her butt, discipline and shame her child.
I agree that it is better if the father is in the home if it is a loving and caring home. But we do not know anything about her husband or why he is not there. Nobody has mentioned that he might be deceased. Although a high percentage of single moms with many children might have had them for the welfare check we simply do not know if she is one of them.
She obviously cares enough about her child that she will do what it takes to get him out of that situation.
I thought she was great. Don’t get me wrong....I was glad to see her take it to her son. I was actually a little surprised he didn’t fight back.

I have the strong suspicion it wouldn’t have ended well FOR HIM if he hit her back. :) I noticed NO ONE stepped in either. Uh uh.. no way. Mama can slap him all day long.. not getting into that one! LOL!
I bet that kid lost a LOT of street cred. I mean, having your own mother beating you down when there are a number of cameras reckording the beat down. Just how many street cred points did he forfeit? That and the loss of face that goes along with this.
I had an incident a few years ago in which a gang of feral utes, all black vandalized a store. I followed them wile on the phone with the police Just before the law arrived, one of them escalated by throwing a rock through my windshield and then a bunch tried to get into my car.
Living in Maryland, concealed carry is mot possible. Long story short, cops arrive, draw down on the utes, utes hit the deck.
The amazing part was when the families arrived on the scene, there were several fathers in the group.
I was gratified by that. Highly unusual.
