Violence and looting overtook much of West Baltimore on Monday, seriously injuring several police officers and leaving a store and several vehicles in flames..
At least seven police officers were injured in a clash that began near Mondawmin Mall and spread toward downtown. One officer was unresponsive and others suffered broken bones, police spokesman Capt. Eric Kowalczyk said.
Smoke filled the air as police responded with shields and a tactical vehicle. Demonstrators pelted officers with rocks, bricks and bottles and assaulted a photojournalist, and officers fired back with tear gas and pepper balls.
Demonstrators set a police vehicle ablaze at North and Pennsylvania avenues. Nearby, they looted a CVS drug store, which store officials said had already closed, before it caught fire. Rioters cut the fire hose as firefighters battled the blaze....

This must be the officer that is "unresponsive".
Prayers for his recovery and the safety of all in harms way tonight.
I’m sorry this is happening in your state.
.
Yeah, me too. I fear the worst is yet to come. This could go on all week. A lot of folks have no idea that Baltimore isn’t just an urban center. It is a different type of city with small communities in it (like Little Italy, for example). It has nice stadiums, aquarium, the Inner Harbor, Lexington Market... Makes me sick to think about it. Thank you, Mears.
They sent lots of marines from camp Pendleton. Saw one guarding a Big 5 Sporting goods store on Santa Monica Blvd..
To what end? The current crop is sitting on their hands. What will adding more of them do for America?
One of my dreams would be to visit Camden Yards.
I admire it when the Red Sox are there. (I won’t even let myself think of the last 2 games. :-)
My son-in-law and grandson visited it last year. They loved the ballpark.

Ok; it went by so quick I couldn’t tell but I assumed he was black.
I watched that riot from the flash point on. Actually, the police STOPPED protecting the courageous Fire-fighters, so the Fire Department stopped responding. That's why so much of the city burned. It wasn't until about a week later when the National Guard came in that things settled down. But then, it may have been there was little left to loot and the thugs were drunk.
My heroes out of that mess - the Koreans standing atop their stores with rifles in hand. Guess how many Korean stores were looted or burned? Guess how many of those armed Koreans were prosecuted for weapons infractions?
All should take example from that self-defense stance. It's beyond time for decent armed citizens to form groups to counter this racist nonsense that kills people and destroys personal property.
I had to rerun it myself. He is light-skinned, though, like you said.
Ahh come on....you’re missing him explain how this is just like the MLK shooting.
What a bleedin' drama queen.
CNN will be switching back to the CA homo celebrity story soon...
I remember Shep crying during the Katrina reporting and his eye shadow was running. It was embarrassing to say the least..
That’s a pretty big crowd...it might take two Texas Rangers - one to provide covering fire while the other reloads.
OK...Walker and Travette.
Time to put out word that any more attacks on the officers by the rioters will result in deadly force and lots of it. Let 'em howl - and bleed. Maybe the Mayor would like to lead one of the next attacks...
Thanks for the info. Please keep us posted.
