For a good book on the subject, read David Simons Homicide: A year on the killing streets (which the show homicide is based on). You get the feeling Simon came into the job disliking police, and left with a different outlook. Reading about some of the crimes committed by the Baltimore animals is eye opening.
David Simon also created HBO’s ‘The Wire’, a very good crime drama based in Baltimore.
