Only the State has the authority to take life. The law enforcement police are officers of the State or a municipality under the State assigned to enforce the law. They have the authority to use deadly force to enforce the law if required. That is why they wear a sidearm.
Removing deadly force from law enforcement simply gives more power to those other than the State.
FWIW, the person killed in custody also had a history of over 22 arrests in his 7 yrs as an adult without any reference to offenses as a minor.
It strongly appears this racist Administration is doing everything possible to foment riots throughout the US and not exercising authority to enforce the law, thereby creating civil disorder and anarchy, which would justify their removing our freedom to enforce peace by tyranny.
Freedom without authority is anarchy. Authority without freedom is tyranny.
The situation is simple. Law enforcement has the authority to use deadly force when required to protect the sanctity of freedom, property, and life. If their ability to use force is removed, anarchy will evolve.

Agreed - but it is not just law enforcement that has that authority, we do too. (Although state law varies).
Thoughtful post but I start disagreeing starting at the second paragraph.
Police are given deference by DA’s and Judges and even higher authorities. Then after that, they enjoy a certain amount of immunity in actions performed while carrying out their duties. Because of this, they also deserve extra scrutiny and to be judged at a higher standard when ‘weird’ things happen.
If all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.
