There’s a good mystery writer with stories based in Baltimore. She refers to it as “Charm City,” but that’s the only place I’ve heard it.
I absolutely adore parts of Baltimore — it’s one of my favorite cities. That said, I have also never been more scared in my life (two times) than there. And, I grew up near Oakland and have traveled alone through many third world countries. Nothing came close to my two experiences in Baltimore.
Funny, I was just thinking how much safer I feel in a 3rd world country I visit, which is primarily black, than I would feel if I were in Baltimore, Ferguson, etc.
