WADENA, Minn. -- A Wadena-Deer Creek social studies teacher and coach is charged with molesting a student at his Henning home last week after paying her to clean cabins. Brian Kenneth Maki, 58, of Henning, was charged with fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct -- position of authority -- on Tuesday and remained in jail. According to a complaint filed by the Otter Tail County attorney, a student said Maki was her teacher and "role model" and she arranged to meet him after he offered her a job cleaning cabins. She met the defendant last Thursday and he gave her gas money to get to his home in Henning, the student alleged. Once at the residence, the student was told he no longer had cabins for her to clean but was given a tour of his home, the complaint states. The student said she began to get a bad feeling.

That he admits giving her money because of her family troubles is a huge red flag. There are always kids in tough situations and teachers are not handing out cash to them year after year.
