Okey dokey folks. Let 'er rip. Carry a hammer or a firearm? This should be good.

With a few exceptions, one chambered. If it's a revolver, all six chambered (I don't own any seven-shooters). If a semi, mag full and one up the spout. If it's a 1911, cocked and locked; if it's a Glock, condition 1 and be extra aware on the draw stroke; if it's a double-single action, one chambered and the decocker engaged. If weapons retention is an issue (one reason the Israelis carry Condition 2) then change the holster out.
If I happen to be carrying at Threat Green or I expect to handle the piece and turn it over to someone else in the next few minutes, then maybe Condition 2 for awhile. If you expect to have to be Quick Draw McGraw, then you aren't at Green anymore anyway.
Most doctrine as taught in America is Condition 1 carry, but well-practiced Israeli carry aficionados can rack the slide and present the piece pretty durn fast. But you need two hands to do that. De gustibus non est disputandum.

Depends also on what the training is of whoever you’re dealing with.

Carry a modern firearm with one chambered and have a good holster that protects the trigger. Stay alert at all times when out and about on the streets.
Criminals depend on surprise, stealth, deception, and speed. They are not likely to give you a lot of advance warning unless they screw up their approach. When they show up as a threat, it is likely to be without much warning and you aren't going to want to be monkeying around chambering a round unless you constantly train that way.
However, if you are at home or keep a weapon in your car and there is any possibility of children getting access, for safety keep an empty chamber until you think you might need to use it.

Well, after all this comradery and friendly badinage, I thought I’d share something I was told recently:
Don’t do anything while carrying that you normally wouldn’t do.
Guns are like bottled courage. If you think you need it, you don’t want it.

My carry choice is always 1911A1. Always with a round in the chamber, and the safety engaged. I prefer ‘ready’ over ‘kinda ready’.

My KAHR MK-9 does not have a safety so in the interest of safety, I do not carry it with a round in the chamber........

My CCW pistol is configured with a hammer block safety. I carry Condition 2 - hammer down, round in the chamber. My preferred carry piece is a SA 1911 style 9mm.

A few questions to ponder.
Who posts to a serious thread about gun safety, on a site that is decidedly conservative and pro-2nd Amendment: No need to carry a firearm. ?
Who insults those that question trollish behavior with: Look into that Midol thing. ?
Who believes THIS: I was in Ohio last year this time and a minor league baseball team did it. Had a guy try to run bases in heels. No big deal. Nothing sexual, or deviant about it. Nothing to see here. ?
Incremental dumbing down, deviancy, emasculation, erosion of rights and independence are hallmarks of liberal rot. Humbly submitted for your consideration.

Handguns? Ready to rock n roll, rounds chambered. Holsters for all, requirements for any Glock anyway...
Rifles? Mags inserted, chambers empty. Also, car gun, Kel-Tec Sub2000 when folded can’t have round in chamber: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I979gQaLvn4

1911. Round in the chamber. Hammer cocked. Safety on.
I'm not a fan of revolvers, but were I to carry one, it would be DA with all chambers loaded.
