I keep holding out hope that someone in power will speak out against an oligarchy ruling the nation, but I’ve been convinced for a while that is taking place. I don’t think those calling the shots are the public faces, though. My guess is that they are a minimum of two degrees of separation from the politicians.

Again, that is what I think too.

“I keep holding out hope that someone in power will speak out against an oligarchy ruling the nation”

They better do it soon because there will come a time, in the not to distant future, in the USA that you can no longer speak out against the government.
It will be for the security of America or some other made up reason.
Who or what will stop them? ..the USC? the Checks and Balances? Congress? the Media?
History is repeating itself and what we thought could never happen in the USA is happening.
Don’t give up your guns and don’t compromise your beliefs. Although, history shows us most will.

Agreed, I don’t believe that any of us knows the names of those calling the shots. (I agree with your estimate of two degrees of separation, but it may be higher.)
