Loretta Lynch, after being kept waiting in the wings by the Senate for five and a half months, was confirmed Thursday as the first African American woman to serve as Attorney General.
Lynch was approved 56-43, one of the narrowest margins in history for an attorney general nominee.
The vote ended an unusually partisan episode in modern Senate confirmation history, in which a largely uncontroversial nominee to one of the top cabinet posts was kept out of office for a lengthy period over issues extraneous to her job.

Who voted for cloture? All 10 of these must also be added to the list of America’s enemies.
It will be invigorating to see a black, female racist in charge of harassing white males.
For your attention, Folks:
We have just witnessed a pivotal moment in our history - NOT because of the first black female AG, but rather the continuation (even the acceleration) of the 0bamagenda, including weaponized law enforcement.
AG-designate Lynch categorically stated during Senate testimony that - her job - is Not to uphold the laws of the land, but rather to implement 0bola's whims.
Thanks, Old Sarge.
Everyone makes fun of Obama for voting present. It's discouraging that Cruz couldn't even vote present.
WHO VOTED FOR CLOTURE? Does anyone know?
Puhleeze. Go back to Mitt, nick.
Puhleeze. Go back to Mitt, nick.

Look, I like Cruz, but this is incredibly disappointing. If he has a commitment in Texas, that's more important than his commitment to be Senator, then he should give up his job being a senator.
This is kind of thing that loses elections. If he's not careful, he will turn into the Fred Dalton Thompson of 2016.
We have a bunch of candidates who can't be bothered to protect the Constitution. Cruz said he was that candidate. Today he was too busy to defend the Constitution. That is disappointing. Two more strikes and he is out.
But in the meantime, I count this as a vote FOR Loretta Lynch.

If you support Mitt Romney, that says a lot about you. Romney already lost twice. You really want him back to lose again.
The Republican senators who voted to invoke cloture on the nomination were Lamar Alexander (Tenn.), Ayotte, Richard Burr (N.C.), Shelley Moore Capito (W.Va.), Thad Cochran (Miss.), Susan Collins (Maine), Bob Corker (Tenn.), John Cornyn (Texas), Jeff Flake (Ariz.), Cory Gardner (Colo.), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Orrin Hatch (Utah), Ron Johnson (Wis.), Mark Kirk (Ill.), McConnell, Rob Portman (Ohio), Pat Roberts (Kan.), Mike Rounds (S.D.), John Thune (S.D.) and Thom Tillis (N.C.).

Thank you, Nero. No surprises. None of these people care if America burns to the ground, as long as they retain their power. Pukes and traitors all. Bob
I hate Flake about as much as McCain. I had NO PART in their elections.
Of course, I called his office and got the obligatory “I’ll pass your message on to the senator”.....click.
There’s more power in saying “no” than in just going along.
Yes.
Te critical vote was the cloture vote. From that point on, confirmation was a done deal. He called out the Republican leadership and flat said that a vote for Lynch was a breach of their oath.
Futhermore, I think McConnell deliberately delayed the vote for over three hours knowing full well that Cruz had to catch his flight. For three hours they did Nothing!
These are the real traitors. Alot of them, once were assured of her confirmation voted against her. Snakes.
