For Democratic politicians, same-sex marriage has become an easy issue: Theyre for it. Many Republican VIPsnotably the presidential hopefulsface a far more complicated landscape.
Looming ahead for these contenders are early contests in states such as Iowa and South Carolina, where a major role will be played by conservative Christian voters firmly opposed to same-sex marriage. Further down the road is the 2016 general election, where the nominee will likely need backing from independents and moderate Republicans who support gay unions.
Republicans are trying to thread the needle on this, with varying degrees of skill. It doesnt take a genius to figure out why, said Gregory Angelo, executive director of Log Cabin Republicans, which represents gay conservatives and seeks to make the GOP more inclusive.
The more shrewd members of the field know that in order to win the general election, they cannot be in absolute opposition to LGBT equality, Angelo said. If that is their position, they automatically turn off a large portion of the electorate.

I know this wont be everyones approach but here is what I say when asked about this . The purpose for marriage is so that the intrinsic sexual nature of mankind can be realized in the only way that is God approved. So . Do you that anal sex is a normative state of being and qualifies as being God approved?
Gay marriage a difficult issue for GOP White House hopefuls
Not really. If they want the votes from the Tea Party and the majority of Republican Party voters the only position is that homosexual marriage is not marriage.
well that’s the picture I got in my mind when I imagined Ted not bowing down before the golden idol- even at the risk of his political career- His values and morals are far more important ot him than his job, as he has proven time and again- Heb Bush on the other hand is a coward and traitor to the party sadly
“. . . only to lose in the General”? That’s not an issue that lost Romney the 2012 election, except insofar as he was a flip-flopper on it.
actually, marriage was taken over by the govnerment as a means of encouraging sexual reproduction in order to produce future tax payers- marriage was ‘allowed’ by the government for this purpose- and government took the ‘right’ upon themselves to deny people their privilege to marry for various reasons- Married benefits such as tax breaks were meant to encourage married couples to have more children, and to remain married so that the children would grow up in a stable environment and become responsible stable tax payers I nthe future-
Kids growing up in gay families are FAR MORE LIKELY to become wards of the state0- burdens on the states and society because of mental issues, health problems, suicides etc-
The whole reason government took over the institution of marriage was for financial incentives to encourage men and women to procreate stable healthy children who would later be an asset instead of a deficit to the nation’s economy and tax code-
so the gay argument that marriage is a ‘right’ is nonsense- marriage is a privilege, taken over by the government, and now granted by the government OR withheld by the government/states, for the sole purpose of procreating future tax payers to support the government
