I think I read that about 1/3 of American soldiers at the time were of German heritage, and that’s not counting the ones who would call themselves “Anglo-Saxon.”

Within the last six months I saw something on the Net, maybe here, that Germans are by far the largest national group in the American population, considerably larger than English.

BTW, I also hope that couple got to England and had long and happy life. What a way to meet; lots more interesting than my blind date story.
