I'm not saying you couldn't be right in your expectations today, just emphasizing that people in the past did have reasonable expectations of Christ's return, given the information available to them.

Actually, a reputable study done in the mid-1980s found a recent unprecedented acceleration of earthquakes, wars, etc., which then leveled off--it couldn't have continued accelerating without wiping out everyone.

The world's size was well-known two millennia ago, and the explorers through the centuries never reached vast uninhabited (but habitable) regions suggesting that all peoples had been discovered. Those who didn't know just didn't want to know.
