McDonald's is closing hundreds of restaurants this year

For instance, earlier in April the company announced it is testing out a larger, pricier, third-of-a-pound burger for $5, two years after dropping the similar Angus burger line because they were too pricey for McDonald’s diners. Despite that earlier failure, new CEO Steve Easterbrook expressed confidence his customers would go for premium burgers.

“I often describe McDonald’s as possibly the most democratic -- with a small ‘d’ -- brand in the world,” he said. “And what customers love the world over, and none more so than here in the U.S., is how they can buy into aspirational quality products, but at a McDonald’s price.”

But he faces an uphill battle in winning over the millions of burger-eaters in the U.S. that have a dim view of McDonald’s offerings: Nation’s Restaurant News published a survey this month rating 111 limited-service chains on 10 attributes including food quality, and McDonald’s was ranked No. 110, ahead only of Chuck E. Cheese. In-N-Out Burger topped the list.

Wasn’t that BK?

Europe is weird, they serve mayo with the fries and charge you extra for Ketchup packets.

In the USA now, they just don’t give you any but if you ask for KETCHUP because you ordered FRIES, they will hand you ten packets for free.

Bastards

I like it hot, with that hard crust...a little butter, with or without garlic. Good with Cajun too.

Wendy’s

I was going to say that. We don't have much up here, but we have Wendy's and Five Guys.

Now that’s a Burger, a healthy fresh slice of tomatoe, with ketup ozzing out and all.

There are a lot more of these type diners around than people think.

Most are local owned and have to serve properly or they cease to operate.

Example; there is a donut shop that a good many of us went to for coffee and donuts in the morning. The gal who owned it asked us to leave because there got to be quite a good bunch who went there for about an hour in the morning and she insisted that we were taking up all the space for others...which wasnt true. So we all went to another place, and she is out of business as we let everyone know she seemed to not want business.

I would’ve said, we are the others. Ownership doesn’t make them smarter.

My experience with In-and Out Burgers is that every food item I have tried is inferior in texture, taste and temperature to an average McDonalds offering.

When I can, I patronize local burger joints (shout out here for Chop House Burger in Arlington TX), but when my only choice is a chain operation, I’ll be found at a Whataburger (when in Texas) or a Five Guys Burgers and Fries when in exile.

It started going down hill quickly when they installed those giant rodent tubes out front. Then the anti bloating agents and on and on.

Remember around four ‘recovery summers’ ago, when McDonalds had a big ‘hiring day’ that supposedly proved how well the economy was doing.

There’s a small local chain operation in the DFW area - just three location I think, called Bottlecap Alley Icehouse Grill that if franchised nationwide would displace ALL the competition. Absolutely.

While it’s true that McDonalds reported profits of only $811 million on revenue of $5.958 billion in the 1st quarter of 2015, they’re still a retail business in a depression economy.

Yes, they seem to have perfected the sausage patty breakfast sandwich in terms of taste, best if reheated to HOT at home instead of eating from the window.

MCD is a classic example of what happens when lots of MBA’s and Wall Street types act like the Mafia and perpetrate a bust out.
