On April 19, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) told gun owners at a Litchfield, New Hampshire, hunting club that it is past time to examine gun-free zones on military bases and to find a way to change the policy so soldiers can protect themselves.
Cruz cited three gun-related attacks in gun-free zones since November 2009 to emphasize his point: Fort Hood (2009), DC Navy Yard (2013), and Fort Hood (2014).
These attacks were all carried out on military installations by gunmen who passed background checks for their firearms. So the situation has not arisen from a lack of gun control, but from conditions created in a climate where there is so much gun control that innocent people cannot defend their own lives.
According to Politico, Cruz said, “I am very concerned about that policy. I think its very important to have a public discussion about why were denying our soldiers the ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights.
Cruz told gun owners in Litchfield that he is “pressing” Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain for “hearings on whether soldiers should be allowed to carry their own concealed firearms onto military bases.”
Military gun-free zones were implemented just months into the Clinton presidency. The Washington Times reported that one of President Clintons first acts upon taking office in 1993 was to disarm U.S. soldiers on military bases.

WHY DO WE MAINTAIN GUN-FREE ZONES ON MILITARY BASES? Simplest reason: Because it shows just what has the real power — the federal government, not the Constitution — why else are all federal government properties so dismissive of, and downright hostile to, the second amendment?

I didn't know he had done that, but it doesn't surprise me it was done contrary to state-law… there's a lot of crap going on in the several states forbidden by their own constitutions.

Our soldiers on bases should be armed. Off base, no, not while in uniform. Somewhere down
the road that line got blurred and they disarmed our soldiers on their bases
across America.
Does anybody know why this has happened?

Clinton someone said...others say walker Bush.
They should be armed at all times, my felling is.
I armed my daughter for home, vehicle and personal protection.
Shotgun, .45 auto, .38 snubby

Our military men and women are in danger abroad and at home, on base or at home. There have been actual terrorist attacks on US bases on US soil. The threats to our military are clear and present and explicit and specific.
A ‘gun free zone’ only applies to innocent victims and not to deliberate, intentional criminals.
Common decency requires us to allow our soldiers a chance to defend themselves and not to die as a sacrifice to the political ambitions and agenda of Mr. Obama and his Liberal slaves.

Does anybody know why this has happened? I did contract work on a base, and a couple of the vets I talked to told me that the Army/Navy was/is afraid of fights boiling over into gun fights.

Because military bases are one place where the feds can enforce total gun bans. They’d do it everywhere if they could.
To: SoConPubbie
I think it is stupid that service men and women are not allowed to carry weapons on base. anyone at staff sergeant or above should be allowed to openly carry a loaded sidearm. Also these soldiers should be allowed to bring war souvenirs home. enemy Knives, sidearms. flags banners helmets hats etc. I would draw the line on human body parts.

I think everyone in uniform on base should be carrying a sidearm.

Does anybody know why this has happened? I did contract work on a base, and a couple of the vets I talked to told me that the Army/Navy was/is afraid of fights boiling over into gun fights. The fights and pulling/getting weapons occurred back in the early 70s when I lived in the barracks. There were more than a few incidents although most were kept pretty quiet. I was personally involved in jumping on a drunk guy who was coming back into the NCO club to shoot a guy he had a dispute with. He wasn't the only one. Even then, our service weapons were kept first in the barracks armory and then in the base armory. I don't know what the Army did then, but having gone to a joint school on a large Army base there were several fights that eventually led to some attempted or realized cuttings from soldiers using their bayonets. Today, I might see letting troops open carry on base but even then, drunks, twits, and love triangles will be problematic.
