“...death penalty has been used far too many times
on people who were wrongfully convicted and
who ended up being found factually innocent...”

Millions upon millions have asked that very question.

God doesn't “let” as in, have agency in it. Way back in the beginning, man decided he would wanted to have all the knowledge of God-be on par with God, even be God, himself. He lost his innocence and was given free will, just as God has. He wanted it, he got it. It's the unintended consequence of man trying to usurp God. God just let man have what he wanted. Unfortunately, man is not all-knowing, all-holy and all-just, as is God.

One of my Cousin’s friends killed him. He thought Eddie had money and drugs. Eddie may have, as he was pretty much into that world. But his “friend” chased him around his apartment and stabbed him 26 times! He got 11 years, and was out in 5. If I ever run into him, he’ll be lucky to spend 5 years in Intensive Care. Period!

Anyone who denies the deterrent effect of the death penalty is a fool

I have no idea if capital punishment is a deterrent, and I could not care less. There's a lot of data that says it isn't. It certainly did not deter the murderers of Miss Grammer.

If it deters one tear from the eye of a victim's relative, or deters one minute of sleeplessness, I'm all for it.

Did you miss the “false evidence’ part? I’m assuming he means “falsified”, i.e. planted or otherwise misrepresented by the officials, not by some outside person.

No, I didn’t miss that. There weren’t any Isrealites yet either.

I was simply reinforcing the point that the executive authority, the power of the sword, along with its duties, that was handed down in Genesis nine was for everybody. No exceptions.

Understood and you have my deepest sympathies. Still, I stand by what I said in that the standard for the death penalty necessarily needs to be higher than it is given the number of people who’ve been sentenced to death only to be later exonerated or, God forbid, unjustly executed.

Free will. We are free to commit evil or good.

Society has the right to protect itself by executing dangerous persons when it chooses. Therefore the death penalty is legitimate, even if the pope condemns it.

I’d like to recommend the Problem of Pain by CS Lewis. He discusses this and much more in the short book. Well worth reading for a very well thought out, detailed explanation.

Somehow King David skated... the problem happens when we try to mix a divine remedy with worldly logic.

The "somehow," in eternal terms, was his repentant heart, one that was "after God's own heart."

In civic terms, the fact that he was the king sort of screwed up the earthly punishment part. That's one of the problems with having kings.

But he did nonetheless pay a heavy earthly price for his sin in terms of his own life and the screwed up lives of his own family, and his own country.

One way or another, justice will be served.

True, but his first son died as punishment. Not fair from our modern perspective.

Probably the two most important things that need to happen for capital punishment reform are first, for states to create a provision in their law that capital punishment sentences are not to be limited by means, when more than one means is available; and that the firing squad is a legitimate means of execution at the option of the state.

That is, sentences are just for execution, and the means of execution are entirely up to the state to determine.

The second, and more important thing, is for conservatives to become chairmen of the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary, and the United States House Committee on the Judiciary.

From this position, with the assent of their committees, they can determine what the criteria are for death penalty appeals, and strongly limit the ability of federal judges to overturn death sentences or to direct lower courts to not execute.

Likewise, they can limit the timetables of appeals to just five years, that all appeals must be accomplished within that time. To do this, all death penalty appeals will automatically be moved to the head of the docket, and judges will be limited to a total of 3 months of continuances: one month for the defendant, one month for the prosecution, and one month at the discretion of the judge.

The Bible? That’s just so First Century (and older).

Obama wasn't even born then*. So he would ask you: "Why would anyone care?"

(*unless of course he IS Lucifer which seems increasingly likely)

The recidivism rate of executed murderers is very low, even non-existent, for some reason...

Because this world is the domain of Satan. Refer to the Book of Job (1:7):

“And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”
