Because knowing that your vote has been rendered meaningless by torrents of handouts and waves of immigration really helps a whole lot.

Exactly right. “An informed electorate” includes those who have been informed to “A vote for me is a vote for free stuff!”

Add into that the E A S I L Y hackable electronic voting machines (I still don’t know we aren’t screaming about that one) and, well ... you’re vote probably means nothing.
