Right to Bear Arms? Gun grabbing sweeping the nation
Foxnews ^

Cherished family heirlooms were among the 21 firearms Michael Roberts surrendered to the Torrance Police Department in 2010, after his doctor filed a restraining order against him.

The court order was the result of a dispute Roberts had with a member of the doctor’s staff and, after Roberts pleaded no contest, the matter was resolved. Yet, even though he filed the proper Law Enforcement Gun Release paperwork on four separate occasions, obtained clearance from the California Department of Justice and had two court orders commanding the return of his guns, police refused to hand them over.

With the backing of the National Rifle Association and California Rifle and Pistol Association, Roberts filed a federal lawsuit in May 2014, over the $15,500 worth of firearms. In the end he got the money, but not the guns. The police had had them destroyed.

It’s what makes a police state work.

I’m not sure why you’re bragging about that...

Are you equating slaves and arms? That’s one hell of a leap.

Slaves were property, required under the Fugitive Slave Act to be returned to their “rightful owner” upon recapture.

Are you a law-abiding citizen or not?

No I’m not.

Do you equate slaves and arms?

What’s your rule on which laws must be obeyed and which need not be obeyed?

Who’s bragging. I think you misunderstand.

The point is I had exactly the opposite problem as the person in the article. A felonious individual that I had to secure a restraining order against and I was told by a deputy to return his weapons. If he wasn’t a felon and the order had expired, yes, I would have done so. Still, when I asked the deputy to send someone to give him his weapons they refused. I wanted the deputy to hand the felon his weapons, not me. Even if the order had expired, I would want a law enforcement official to give him his weapons, not me, who had the order against him. It was way to volatile a situation and there was no way I wanted to be around this person under any circumstance.

I know individuals who have had restraining orders against them who also have never gotten their weapons back, but they were not felons, most victims of vindictive wives or girlfriends.

No, I don’t equate slaves and arms.

Now you answer mine.

Some people just think orders must always be obeyed.
