Days after Iran deal, Pentagon acts fearing nuclear missile attack that would burn out Americas electronic-based defenses.
The Pentagon has decided to reopen the Cheyenne Mountain Air Defense facility, which housed the heart of Americas air and missile defense of North America. The facility had been mothballed in a cost-saving move in 2006.
Last week, Admiral William Gortney, head of US NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) and US Northern Command, reversed that decision and announced the Pentagon was spending an opening ante of $700 million to oversee reactivation of the Cheyenne mountain-embedded facility.
The reason - the Pentagon's fears of a nuclear Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP) attack by a missile that would burn out Americas overly-dependent defense, which is based on modern electronics.
US NORAD and US Northern Command arent just acronyms. They represent the last-ditch American defense of the continental United States homeland. NORAD originally stood for North America Air Defense Command, but now stands for North American Aerospace Command. US Northern Command is the area-specific designation of the US military command that is responsible for the continental United States homeland.
Given the current US military fear of an inter-continental ballistic (ICBM) missile attack with an EMP nuclear-device, Admiral Gortney explained that "because of the very nature of the way that Cheyenne Mountain's built, it's EMP-hardened. And so, there's a lot of movement [in the Pentagon] to put [military] capability into Cheyenne Mountain and to be able to communicate in there."
In early 2013, this author warned against a similar Iranian Fatwa-compliant EMP attack against Saudi Arabia, and a North Korea EMP attack against South Korea.

I have heard that EMP actually makes electronics more durable, since all that current fattens the wires and leads on circuit boards.
Look for discarded, nonfunctioning microwave ovens being thrown away by the curb.
They are convenient, cheap faraday cages.
Damn I should have added: (sarc)
I use old popcorn tin canisters as my Faraday shields.
What is your point, Kart? Is it imaginary?
interesting
Maybe this is just Halliburton and Cheney getting new defense contracts instead of letting the money go to the poor where it will do some good?
What's wrong with this country, anyhow?
I built my solar panel array under ground to protect it.
God that is funny
Just trying to strike before the ‘There is not EMP’ crowd so up. Especially the most learned one the one who swears that lightening disproves the existence of EMP.
Oh, OK! Didn’t know there was such a crowd.
I read the original EMP report to Congress but just found this updated report: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CHRG-110hhrg45133/pdf/CHRG-110hhrg45133.pdf
I thought the Left was the entity spouting "Bush's fault" for everything wrong in today's world. The real question is why does it need to be reopened to protect us from an Iranian EMP...
If you want to make a list of the top 5 presidents for undermining the Constitution, W would certainly be there. FDR, Lincoln, LBJ,and Ike would probably round out the list.
You really need to get past the brainwashing that an ‘R’ behind the name means it is a good guy. (It is, however, probably still safe to recognize that the ‘D’ designates a bad guy).
Doesn’t sound like he act of an administration that really believes “the world is a safer place”.
Is there a ping list?
If you start one please add me.
“They are convenient, cheap faraday cages”
or maybe not...
Well aware that those with an "R" by their names aren't always (or even usually) the good guys. Stll of the mind that even a wishy-washy "R" is preferable to any "D", especially and Obama and anyone else they are likely to offer from here on out. I'm willing to fight the battles to deter the "Ds" at every step and not concede the war because a particular battle doesn't give optimal results.
Right now I'm 100% behind Cruz and am donating to his campaign. I would be disappointed, but OK with a Walker if something happens to knock Cruz out of the picture. After that, I would be highly discouraged, but would still vote against the "D", as bad as it may make me feel. I will send any message to the RNC/GOPe that I can even if it is likely to be spinning my wheels - better to actually fight than roll totally over to the enemy. Else, we might as just go ahead and concede because the fight will entail decades of consistent and sustained efforts with a number of setbacks - I won't allow a setback to make me throw my hands in the air and concede as long as there's a chance.
If that makes me brainwashed, so be it - I'll go down with my boots on instead of an apron.
+1.
"I'm only trying to help you honey."
