Officers wanted to question them about the alleged assault of a Walmart employee who was going into the store bathroom. The police were accompanied by another Walmart employee.
...
Several times on the video the group appears to surrender, but starts fighting again. The melee goes for several minutes until backup officers arrive and make arrests.
Police charged four members of the family with assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. Two minors were also taken into custody and are being held at a juvenile detention facility.

No, more and more it is foolish, even dangerous to talk to cops.
I admonish ALL to avoid even casual remarks to any LEO.
Wrong county for Joe.

I won’t be surprised if all Walmarts stop overnight camping in their parking lots.
Of course that means their employees and police, with having to notify the campers they must leave.
How in the hell do nine adults sleep inside a suburban?
Family of idiots from Idaho. The police showed tremendous restraint, brawling with them for 6 minutes and not shooting anyone, until one of them was shot.
Apparently you didn't watch the video...Things were calm until the big cop who shot himself physically attacked one of the group and then as if on key, all the cops started tackling people...
Not necessarily legally correct. If there is a felony in progress, and someone dies, then the felon would be the one charged with murder, not necessarily the person that pulled the trigger. If there was merely a misdemeanor, then the charge would be manslaughter, not murder.
I this case a family member got a ride in a hearse.
Stupidity sometimes has a high price. A cop gets shot, even if it turns out to be blue on blue, and things are likely to get very ugly.
Unsolicited advice for everyone here: If a cop is pointing a gun at you and tells you to get down, get down. Don't hop back up and charge back into the action.
What video were you watching?
I watched it last night. Those cops kept their cool far longer than most people would have. In some parts of the country a situation like this would have ended in 6 or 7 people being shot.
(himself, iff'n that's how one of them got shot in a leg. ouch.)
So please tell us what your unsolicited advice would be with TWO cops, one who shouts "FREEZE DON'T MOVE OR I'LL SHOOT!" while the other screams "GET ON THE GROUND RIGHT NOW OR I'LL SHOOT!"
Yes, even if the cop shot himself, you can still charge the other guys.
The smallest is most likely to feel the need to use the gun, the one in a 'roid rage is most likely to pull the trigger first.
Excellent! Thanks!
It sounds like someone copped an attitude with the cops, ...
Did you watch the video? The cops jump out of their cars ready to throw down (at least one appears to have a club of some sort in his hand).
They take no time to assess the situation at all. They got what they wanted...a fight with "civilians".
Further...the cops zero control of the situation. One of them sprays pepper spray into his own eyes.
And...one of the cops kicks another in the face. It also looks like the cop that fired his weapon *may* have hit his brother in blue. What a Charlie Foxtrot.
