On Tuesday, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul entered the Republican race for the presidency. Most people assume his natural rival is Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. They waited for Mr. Cruz to respond.
On Wednesday, he did.
Not in the way most people would have expected. Instead of challenging Mr. Paul on the issues, the Cruz team threw down the gauntlet in a different manner. They announced that a group of super-PACs have raised an unbelievable $31 million for the Texas Senator.
That is $31 million.
To put that in perspective, Newt Gingrich only raised $24 million when he ran in 2012. That was Mr. Gingrichs fundraising for the entire year. The Cruz campaign just cruised past that mark with ease.
The traditional wisdom is that most of the Republican money would go to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. But according to published sources, some of the people behind the super-PACs are former supporters of Bush and former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
The numbers for Mr. Cruz are huge. The knock the establishment puts on Mr. Cruz is that he is unelectable. Of course, this comes from a group that has pushed a series of electable candidates on America who at the end of the day dont end up with enough votes to win. In 2016, the Democrat nominee (who will be Elizabeth Warren) will end up with well over a billion dollars in legal and illegal contributions to try and win the presidency. Mr. Cruz just showed everyone that he can raise money and he can stay in the fight. {snip}

Yeah, lets see how the establishment likes that one! lol
And us “hoi polloi” can push him way over the top if everyone who has a conservative bone will donate $10-$15 as a minimum.
The media will pull their ignore and demonize routine and money will have nothing to do with that. Remember, the media is not compelled to run an advert from Cruz. What value is money if you can’t put it to good use.
There will come a round of debates where they (CNN, ABC, PBS etc) will invite only top tier candidates, and Cruz, Paul, and whomever else they deem to be second tier will not be invited. And let’s be clear second tier means... conservative.
You are, of course, 100% right. This will come from both the Left and the GOPe (but I repeat myself).
Right now they are down to fact checking his jokes. They’re probably close to the ignore phase but I don’t think it’ll work this time. He’s too visible for them to ignore.
Who’s the rain maker?
Twas a private joke with 2d vet.
Someone had come on a Cruz thread with some snarky anti-Cruz comments. He told 2d vet he loved to rain on his parade, that it was one of his purposes in life.
Let's just say I sort of flamed the guy (I think it's a guy), so I've nick named him the rainmaker......
