Police: Officer facing murder charge following shooting of suspect

The North Charleston police officer who fatally shot a 50-year-old man during a traffic stop on Saturday has been arrested and is being charged with murder.

North Charleston Patrolman First Class Michael Slager, 33, will face the charge in connection with the shooting death of Walter Scott.

That announcement came at a press conference late Tuesday afternoon from North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey who referred to a video someone recorded of the shooting Saturday morning.

The video had been sent to Scott's family and the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division, Summey said.

"As a result of that video and bad decisions made by our officer, he will be charged with murder," Summey said.

"It's been a tragic day," North Charleston Police Chief Eddie Driggers said.

Driggers said the video shows Scott "taking off" and the officer shooting the suspect.

Summey called the video "very demonstrative" and said without the video, it would have been difficult to resolve the issue. Summey said the city is trying to meet with Scott's family and will reach out to them any way they can.

Read the entire article. This was a good shoot. The suspect engaged the officer in a pursuit during a traffic stop, fought the officer, and then tried to use the officer’s taser against him.

You're kidding, right? Watch the video. The officer planted the Taser next to the guy after shooting him eight times while he was running away. That's a good shoot? Wow. Some people will defend any crime, as long as it's committed by someone wearing a uniform. Heck, put a police uniform on Obama, and I'm sure there are some Freepers who would vote for him.

Why do you suppose the cop is suddenly up for murder, after they saw the video?

“The cop lied about the circumstances surrounding the shooting,

...

What’s your source for that claim?”

Well, the video of the cop planting evidence doesn’t exactly bolster the cop’s credibility....

This should be a death penalty case.

This should be a death penalty case.

Yup. And the other cop, who was standing right there when the shooter dropped the Taser next to the victim, should be charged as an accessory after the fact.

Great. Preplaned teamwork training.

Police are now the criminals, I guess.

Now you're starting to get it.

“Read the entire article. This was a good shoot.”

Uh, I guess you missed the part where a citizen made a video of the whole shooting, which apparently so contradicted the lies in the “official” report that the cop was immediately arrested for murder as soon as the video was viewed:

“As a result of that video and bad decisions made by our officer, he will be charged with murder,” Summey said.

Just from that one image alone, it looks like Murder One to me.

Washington Post article says:

“Police later said that Scott was hit with the Taser at least once, because part of it was still attached to him when other officers arrived on the scene. However, the video footage shows that Scott was running away from Slager, and officials said that he was too far away to use a Taser if he did have it. Moreover, the footage shows Slager picking up an item and placing it near Scott, though it is unclear if this is the Taser or something else.”

Last sentence suggests Slager was “helping his case along” by moving the taser so it appears it was still held by Scott. Don’t know whether this can be proven or if the WaPo is wrong (certainly wouldn’t be the first time) but if it can be established, it certainly is an important fact in a decision to charge.

Great. Preplaned teamwork training.

Sadly, that's the best-case scenario. More likely is that nothing needed to be preplanned, because the officer just knew what he was supposed to do after watching his fellow officer commit murder (or at least witnessing the cover-up). No planning necessary, just the usual blue wall.

Sort of like who the Liberals are tuned into I presume. A higher power. They just know what to do to follow their Rock.

Police are not allowed to issue ad hoc death sentences where no immediate danger is present.

Policeman murdered that man.

Sick MF.
