This is an awful series of events.

And I can actually understand the guy running it in the house, if theft is a neighborhood issue. But, warning labels are there for a reason....

Agreed, very tragic. You also have to consider this man may not have been well educated. Obviously, most people would understand the dangers of carbon monoxide but if he had never been around this type of equipment he would have never known. He was just trying to heat his house and this was his attempt to take care of his family.
I will leave the judgment of his actions to the one that matters...
