I believe it but she is masking the reason. Engineering students tend to come from cultures where women are not respected very well, especially American women. American women are portrayed as unpaid strippers and prostitutes overseas. Not only that, “Stalking” is actually a common way of courting in some cultures.
A lot of Aspies in that area as well.

Thinking back, we had a few Middle Eastern guys who probably thought that way.
The farm boy crew (of which I was a founding member) made it quite clear we protect our own, and have access to pork.
But after freshmen year they all were gone to other programs. Our bigger issue was some of the girls who thought that by smiling we would do their work for them.
