No need to load them. The lousy hygiene, minimal sanitation and crowded conditions of military campaigns brings them out naturally. Or at least it did until armies embraced a level of science several centuries beyond the 7th. If you define life “in the good old days” as life during the military campaigns of Mohammed and the first few Caliphs it is part of the price of admission.
