After being out of California for almost five years I just can’t see putting up with those kind of people anymore.
I’ve turned the other cheek so many times I’ve lost count. Next time one of them slaps me they’ll find a bloody stump where their hand used to be.
And I’m the quiet one in the family! (-:
How often have you confidently told them they are going to a real hell? Unless they turn?
That brings up another error of pseudo-spirituality that many people make, which is failing to understand what "turn the other cheek" really means.
Within the cultural context, it was referring to personal insults from personal enemies. The backhand (which is being pictured there in scripture) was a way of insulting, rather than actually physically harming, an enemy. Christ was telling us not to nurse personal grudges or to respond to personal enemies in kind.
What He was not talking about, however, was allowing people to do anything and everything to you that they want. It doesn't mean we cannot defend ourselves from physical harm. It doesn't mean we can't defend our country from people trying to subvert it and harm untold numbers of people. It really doesn't. A lot of false "spirituality" has been built up by liberal unbelieving churches and denominations centering around this and other verses that are taken out of context.
Indeed, Christ specifically enjoined His disciples after He left this world, to sell their cloaks and buy swords. This was, again, specifically for self-defence, and included self-defence against not only robbers, but also persecution (the counterpoint to the injunction was the previous supernatural protection from the Jewish leaders, etc. that they enjoyed because they were with Christ).
