Is yelp a social media site? I don’t do social media...

I don't either, but this is a "social media" site of sorts. Originally, you could leave reviews of business/products/public events, etc., but it has grown to add "friends" and discussions. I only dabbled in it on a very superficial level, and read and posted reviews.

Yelp = Yellow Pages. It's an online version of the Yellow Pages that allows people to post comments about the company who is advertising. They don't have any control over who posts, and based on the recent posts there seems to be quite a flame war going on between those who support the owners and those who do not. Link
