Canadian diplomat’s sons allegedly botched drug heist

Bloodstains were still visible in the doorway of an apartment in the quiet Miami neighbourhood of Coral Way on Wednesday, two days after an alleged plan to rip off a drug dealer left one of the sons of Canada’s consul general to Florida dead and another charged with murder. Jean Wabafiyebazu, the 17-year-old son of longtime diplomat Roxanne Dubé, died in hospital of injuries suffered in Monday’s shootout, which police say erupted during a dispute over two pounds of marijuana, valued at US$5,000.

His 15-year-old brother, Marc, is being held in a youth detention centre, charged with felony murder and threatening a police officer. He is potentially facing the death penalty. Joshua Wright, 17, a suspected drug dealer according to the Miami Herald, died from multiple gunshot wounds inside the apartment building. A fourth man, Anthony Rodriguez, 19, suffered a gunshot wound to the left arm. He managed to drive away from the building but was later found at a nearby gas station, according to the Herald. He is charged with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon and possessing marijuana for the purpose of selling.

I was thinking the same thing. The reporter is either:

a) ignorant of case law regarding the death penalty, or
b) lying to generate sympathy for the little thug.

I’m voting “b”

Yeah. And now one of them is a [possibly] good looking corpse.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

And most likely reared with NO moral compass whatsoever.

In Hollywood, anything is possible.

In the real world, as per the article:

If Dube’s son is charged with criminal offences, he cannot rely on diplomatic immunity for protection, said Adam Barratt, a spokesman for Foreign Affairs. “Dependents of consular officials enjoy no immunity whatsoever,” he said.

Willy Wonka's take on it.

B is a good guess.

Heck, death might actually look good compared to life in prison. At such an early age, discounting getting shanked, he could look at 50 to 60 years before dying of natural causes.

Canadians are VERY VIOLENT people. I sure wish they would keep their gun crime NORTH OF THE BORDER.

The drug dealer’s name is given as Joshua Wright.

Mr. Rodriguez was “a fourth man” - probably another perp from the looks of it.

Later media reports in Canada make no mention of diplomatic immunity for the kid. I don't think he has any, he is on his own. Also Canada can waive diplomatic immunity if it exists. That would be a distinct possibility in this case.

FYI the father is quoted as saying the youngster was "a perfect kid". I'm thinking not so much.
