What "gay rights" represents is the right to f*** who you want, how you want, when and where you want, pre-existing arrangements notwithstanding, and with the consequences someone else's responsibility.
The percentage of the population who follow that principle is not 2%.
You've identified the 'principle' correctly, and the percentage of followers is probably over 50% right now.
