After some setbacks over the past several weeks, top aides to Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker tell Breitbart News that hes toughening up his immigration position as he learns more about the issue.
Hes for border security first, enforce the laws on the books, fix legal immigration system with national interest in mind and then deal with those here, Walker spokeswoman Kirsten Kukowski said in an email.
Kukowskis comments to Breitbart News come after a trip Walker took on Friday to the border with Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
A lot depends on what the governor means by a: legal immigration system with national interest in mind. Still, this could be a step toward Walker remaking his image on immigration in the manner of Senate Judiciary Committee subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest chairman Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL).
The question becomes: What does Walker think is a legal immigration system that serves the national interest? While he hasnt laid that out yet, theres a massive opportunity for either successor failuredepending on where he comes down on this matter.
He looks forward to further detailing his ideas on securing the border and enforcing the laws, Kukowski added. Yes, at the minimum, there needs to be penalties put in place. In addition to securing our borders, the federal government must enforce our laws, penalize those who break the law including paying back taxes, and implement a universal E-Verify system so employers are hiring legal employees.
Where Walker comes down on the immigration system could make or break his candidacy...

So, you are a liar.
Walker has clearly said he is against amnesty or giving citizenship to illegals. Both Cruz & Walker favor repairs to the immigration system to make it easier for those who want to work to get permits. But both say fixing the border comes first.
You are one of those who will shoot every candidate down on our side until Jeb gets the nomination. Then you will bitch and complain that the GOP selected Jeb. I remember that you did it with Romney and McCain.
So, Ted Cruz should lose his citizenship?

This isn’t pertinent?
Anyone born in this country to parents who were not legally in this country, should lose their citizenship - retroactive to 1986 (when Reagan sign the Amnesty law)
*****
So, Ted Cruz should lose his citizenship?
Cute. Sounds like something the folks over at DU would say.
Sen Cruz’ father, Rafael Bienvenido Cruz is a LEGAL Cuban immigrant to the United States.
I came to this country legally, the elder Cruz explains. I came here with a legal visa, and I every step of the way, I have been here legally.

I found it interesting that Scott Walker got down to the TX border, real quick, after he was caught on tape at the GOPe event. I was disappointed to see my Gov Abbott offer the photo op.
I saw a news clip, on our local news station, about Walker’s visit/appearance. While Gov Abbott looked and sounded serious and sincere, Walker came across - at least in this clip - like a deer in the headlights.
What the Hell does he have to learn?
Not ready for primetime; nor, will he ever be.
What a clown: 1) I am not a liar. Walker has repeatedly said he’d eventually give citizenship to the illegals he’d first legalize. Now that he’s coming under pressure for his position, he is saying he’d require them to go home before they get citizenship, and he’s not for amnesty in the sense of citizenship (meaning he’d legalize them for nothing, but make them pay a fine or some back taxes (though as we’ve seen that’d lead to back EITC) or wait in line before they can become citizens).
And with you so laughably off on that and calling me a liar without base, there’s no reason to even address your ridiculous McCain and Romney assertions.
Texas Tribune, again? Why keep posting this leftist drivel? They’ve been outed, many times here on FR, as a Soros funded, Austin-based propaganda tool.
No thanks.
As he learns more about the issue...?
Quotes are quotes - whether from Walker or Cruz.
Sept 13, 2013: ....Immigration-reform legislation from the Senates so-called Gang of Eight passed that chamber in June and includes a 13-year path to citizenship. Cruz pushed unsuccessfully for amendments that would have, among other things, eliminated the citizenship component.
Asked about what to do with the people here illegally, however, he stressed that he had never tried to undo the goal of allowing them to stay.
The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight, he said during a recent visit to El Paso. Cruz also noted that he had not called for deportation...

Not enough difference for some of the "purists" to show how tainted they are by aiding and abetting the Hillary campaign if Cruz falters and Walker is still on his feet.
Hillary is hardly relevant at this point.
I’ve read that “Walker is acceptable to the Establishment” and I think that says a heck of a lot in the end.
Walker fought the government employee union excesses and I supported him financially during the recall attack of the Democrats.
I get all his fundraising letters including current ones that underline words like “conservative” or “conservative principles” avoiding details of what those words really mean.
It smells like a new way to say “compassionate conservative” which meant more spending, bigger government, bailouts for business like Medicare Part D for pharma and TARP for banks (financial services) and high tech no-win Vietnam style wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
She’s relevant as the “fear factor” to snap us into line to vote for the GOPe approved presidential candidate hoped for by those who support the GOPe in this forum.
Nothing in this country will improve unless we elect an outsider not acceptable to the political-business elites.
Cruz fits that description right now and I don’t see anyone else who does......
Agreed—though Cruz needs some sense pounded into him on illegal immigration too.
He would legalize, but not give citizenship to, the 20M+ illegals here currently. With chain migration, voting with or without drivers licenses and the inevitable citizenship that would be given to those who are legalized, a Cruz presidency at this point would represent the last conservative majority we ever had.
I don’t want politically smart, I want HONEST and against illegal aliens sneaking into our country and getting to stay.
Cruz
