Congrats! Took 21 posts for somebody to question a word of this. There is a LOT that needs fleshing out here.

I don't know when they changed it, but when I was in you had to serve 180 days to get benefits, I believe now it is 18 or 24 months. I know of one person who was going blind during basic and they discharged him at 178 days, so he gets no benefits.

Also National Guard and Reserve don't get benefits. Unless under special conditions.
