I find this hyperventilating over exercises extremely odd.
I thought the lumping together of TX, UT and southern CA particularly neat. Not areas you often think of as having a lot in common.
Holding such exercises in the West and Southwest are for the fairly obvious reasons that there is a lot of empty country and the terrain and weather have a lot in common with areas the troops are likely to find themselves fighting in.
Should we hold military exercises on Manhattan?
Just finished a book about the maneuvers. Quite interesting. We were very lucky that in 1940 we didn’t share a border with Germany. Our army was not ready for prime time.
