Not really. I have had very few instances of “racism” over the last 16 years here. My kids (who are “half”), none. Nice people are nice people, as arseholes are arseholes all over the world. This is wonderful and exceedingly fun place to live. The Japanese do tend to be more “racist” towards non-Japanese in a general sense, because of xenophobia and ignorance, not because of any cultural or inherent racism. The great thing about living here, is that the society is so homogenous and there are no culture wars or cultural ghettos. Crime is almost non-existent, and the food, heavy metal scene, hot chicks, ability to drink on the street 24 hours a day in front the cops, the “your business is not my business” of the Japanese - it all adds up to a damned good way to live. Speaking Japanese makes it even all the more fun and daily challenge to boot. Its awesome to live in a country other than your home country and look at things from outside too.
