Second Day as a Candidate, Cruz Jabs at Bush Over Immigration
NY Times ^ | 03/24/2015 | Maggie Haberman

Posted on 03/24/2015 3:05:24 PM PDT by SoConPubbie

Senator Ted Cruz of Texas hasn’t wasted much time in seeking to distinguish himself from his potential rivals for the Republican presidential nomination, taking issue with Jeb Bush on Tuesday for his position on immigration and implicitly criticizing the former Florida governor for treating “voters as children.”

Mr. Cruz made the comments in an interview with the radio host Laura Ingraham, during which the host, a strong critic of Mr. Bush on immigration, continually goaded Mr. Cruz until he engaged.

“If you wanna beat Jeb, you’re gonna have to hit Jeb,” Ms. Ingraham told Mr. Cruz.

“Laura, I think that if my time in Washington has demonstrated anything, it’s that I’m not afraid to take other people on,” Mr. Cruz said. “But I also think at this stage of the race, Jeb is not a declared candidate.”

But when Ms. Ingraham later pressed him to comment on Mr. Bush’s position on overhauling immigration — “Jeb says he has the grown-up plan, senator” — Mr. Cruz engaged.

“I will say this. I haven’t seen a whole lot of politicians have success when they treat the voters as children,” Mr. Cruz said. “That’s a strategy we’ve seen Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton follow, and I think we’re far better off respecting the voters and indeed, I think the key to turning this country around is energizing and mobilizing an army of courageous conservatives all over this country.”

There’s no doubt that Cruz is going to paint in bold colors that will set him apart from mushy moderates like Bush. But, that doesn’t meant that you give up targeting another candidate’s weaknesses. Jeb has a lot of weaknesses everything from his immigration plan to his establishment vibe. I don’t expect Cruz to attack now, but I hope he unloads if he has to. However, after his brilliant speech on Monday and his known debate skills, I’m not too worried about his strategy.

Look, the lesson of the last cycle is clear. Voters want one thing - and it’s NOT to attack the other Republicans. When Newt was focusing on the Democrats and praising the other Republicans, he was winning big.

It happened at two different times in the last cycle. One was in Iowa, about 2,3,4 weeks before the Iowa Caucus. He was something like 14% ahead of everybody.

He then went Bain Capital on Mitt, and imploded.

He rallied, and led again the week of SC, where he won the Primary by about 13-14%. He then went to Florida, unloaded on Mitt again, and got destroyed.

The lessons are CLEAR.

Thanks C. Edmund Wright! By the way, I think conservatism is going to win the primary in 2016. Big bold colors are needed in 2016, not the pale pastels that have been pushed by the establishment since 1988. Cruz has bonafide conservative credentials that should set him apart from RINOS such as, Jeb Bush. I’m excited, because I was born after Reagan ran for office and I never had the opportunity to vote for a conservative. Maybe, just maybe I’ll have that opportunity in 2016.

“I have never wavered from my intention
to advance the cause of diversity
in new and more effective ways.”

Jeb Bush

“I have never wavered from my intention
to advance the Balkanization of America
in new and more effective ways.”

Jeb Bush

Fixed it.

Jeb now under Cruz Control
