Some time ago, I'd read the liberal Lutherans, the ELCA, pushed for this. Am I right?
It’s possible but I was under the impression they came here under mandate from the UN’s refugee resettlement program, whereby signatories (as in all the western nations) are told to “make room.” My guess is the libs cheered and fell over themselves creating feel-good programs to welcome their future overlords after it was decided by the Feds, visa vi the UN, that they were on their way.
From www.state.gov: “While UNHCR reports that less than 1 percent of all refugees are eventually resettled in third countries, the United States welcomes over half of these refugees, more than all other resettlement countries combined.”
I think we were told to just move over, make room.
I heard it was Lutheran Social Services that received a big chunk of change to help them settle here. No proof though.
The odd thing about this is that we live close enough to St. Cloud that we shop for groceries there and I have heard nothing on the local radio stations about this.
