I’ve never liked the idea of open primaries. The Dems and the so-called independent voters are gonna cause mischief on our side and they’re the reason people like Jeb Bush and Rand Paul have a shot at the nomination. If all GOP primaries and caucuses were restricted to Republicans only they would be blown out of the water. The Democrats are far more politically astute than the hapless GOP. They know who the strongest Republicans are and they will crossover to vote for our weakest candidate. The Democrats always tell us which candidate they fear by the amount of vitriol and venom they throw at them, and when they say things over and over such as that a particular person has no shot at winning. How often have we heard the media say Ted Cruz has no shot at winning in the last two days? How much crap have the Democrats thrown at Scott Walker since 2010? Those two will fight it out for the nomination and let’s hope we can get one of them across the finish line ahead of Jeb.

I am no longer sure that is true. The GOPe has so alienated the base that many have turned independent out of spite. I myself am considering punching out of the burning plane but I am giving them this one last chance.

Almost every FR thread has someone renouncing their GOPe membership.

The political makeup of independents has been shifting.
