I remember wearing a tshirt with Mickey Mouse giving the finger to Iran, and learning what ‘stagflation’ means.

I remember my WWII Sicilian grandfather praying to his home-altar for Reagan to win, and celebrating when he did. Reagan personally waved to me when I was 17 and the only one on his motorcade route right outside where I worked in downtown Austin and I was the only friendly, waving one, anchored away from the moonbats with NoMoRon signs.

I remember the first time SDI was demonstrated conceptually on CNN and hootin’ and hollerin’ about it. My only conservative friends at UT campus were spooks in training, busy stalking the SDS and I learned a LOT about Gorbachev.

My dad’s favorite photo was taken in Governor Reagan’s
office in 1972 (I think). Pop was the California state
FFA (formerly Future Farmers of America) advisor. The
photo included a state assemblyman, the state FFA pres,
a PR man from Santa Fe RR, my dad, and Reagan. My dad
recalled that while they sat at the conference table
Reagan passed around a jar of jelly beans and mentioned
the painting hanging on the conference room wall. The
painting was a cowboy on horseback. Reagan said that
sometimes he pictured himself as that cowboy riding off
into the sunset.

Man, oh man, it was a good thing for the world RR didn’t
choose to be that cowboy at the time!
