Why a Bad Supreme Court Decision May Require Civil Disobedience

The temptation for many will be to cave or compromise. The temptation even for the faithful will be to retreat into our churches and cloisters. In 2004, same-sex “marriage” came to Massachusetts. Contrary to the claim that such laws would usher in an age of “tolerance,” the law immediately became a legal club to beat unwilling participants. Catholic charities bravely refused to place orphans in same-sex homes, because it was contrary to their mission.

Unfortunately, they stopped doing adoptions in the state. This cannot be our precedent. What they should have done is to say, “We are called to place orphans in homes with moms and dads. We will not voluntarily surrender our calling.” Massachusetts might have used force to stop Catholic charities anyway, just as lone florists and bakers are being driven to bankruptcy in other states. But what would happen if, instead of quiet retreat, many thousands of individuals, agencies, charities, churches and schools all came together, prepared, prayed and peacefully refused to countenance a Supreme Court decision that violates not only our highest legal document, but the laws of Nature and Nature’s God?

If they’re a 501C-3 or otherwise beholden contractually to the state for benefits, then they are required to do the states bidding under the terms of the contract.

It’s the same (in my opinion and observations) for anyone else operating under some type of license, grant, benefit, permit etc... from the Feds, or a state or local government. Those are all essentially contracts, and these cases always lose in court because the court is actually looking at it from a contractual standpoint, even if that means the precedents for the ruling have to be traced back through multitudes of cases and the minutia of 150 years or so of law.

You nail it D.

I’ve always said that the first and foremost thing everyone can do to fight the system is to get completely out of debt and shift back over to cash/payment in full for everything.

The beast exists on debt, and it could easily be starved into submission if the working conservative classes could set aside instant credit based gratification and concentrate on eliminating their debts.

You stated it perfectly. There are a few of us out here, yet nowhere near enough. As another FReeper posts in their comments - Pray America is waking up.

Pray America is waking up.

They're not, unfortunately. A 3% tax on a breakfast drink was the straw the broke the tyrant's back the first time around. This time, there will be no revolt. By the time we realize it's too late, we'll be loaded on train cars. To do anything less would put far too much at risk, and we are entirely unwilling to risk all the "things" we have. It's far easier to accept the things that are, and continue working, getting a paycheck, stopping off for a 6 pack to watch the game on the big screen in the home we pay a mortgage on. If we stop consenting, ALL of that is immediately at risk.
