Minolta and Canon didn’t have film as their primary product. They made cameras, and just switched from film to digital types.
Kodak’s main product just went away.

Kodaks main product just went away.
They had other problems as well. Corporate arrogance was one of them; they bought huge amounts of acreage in Colorado to duplicate the Rochester operation, but no one had considered whether or not enough water was available for manufacturing.
At one point so many people took early retirement that the expertise to make the dying color film product was lacking.
I would still like to know the purpose of the bridge they built over the Genesee with the 90 turn on the west bank.
