Sen. Ted Cruz plans to announce Monday that he will run for president of the United States, accelerating his already rapid three-year rise from a tea party insurgent in Texas into a divisive political force in Washington.
Cruz will launch a presidential bid outright rather than form an exploratory committee, said senior advisers with direct knowledge of his plans, who spoke on condition of anonymity because an official announcement had not been made yet. They say he is done exploring and is now ready to become the first Republican presidential candidate.

Here’s a guy who doesn’t BS around or waste time! I Like that.
I know Ted Curz would have my back in WA DC!!!!
I got the text too...I may not b up that late but I will watch Twitter.
I would suggest that, when donating, we make sure “FreeRepublic.com” is displayed on the form.
Senator Cruz needs to know he has friends here.
...even if some Freepers are opposed to his candidacy.
Yes
Local media except in hip locales tends to be less partisan
Kewl. The convocation speech is tomorrow. Unless they’re mixing up,the schedule for this, it should be at 10 am ET.
Exactly
Surprising many here don’t get it
Still don’t get it
Per Ted Cruz at twitter:
“Tonight around midnight there will be some news you wont want to miss. Stay tuned ”
Announcement via twitter ahead of tomorrow’s speech.
Money bomb? Great time to send a message. Hoping to find the correct place to send money.
Everyone can get texts about him by texting ‘Constitution’ to 33733.
Cruz appeared on ‘local media’ here in soviet Red Hampshire this morning...only ten minutes long, but VERY good.
Well, you can have Jeb if you want, but 99% of us are voting for TED.
Well....I was just going to ignore the comment from the earlier misinformed poster, but you chimed in in as well, so let's make my view clear.
I am from Georgia and voted for Herman Cain against the RINO Johnny Isakson when he ran for the Senate and I have been supporting Newt Gingrich since 1994 (I knew him when he was a professor at my alma mater, West Georgia College) and hoped he would one day run for President.
I was so excited to see the nomination within his grasp after SC last time, only to see him (as well as every other conservative) kill themselves with the circular firing squad until the loser, Romney was the last man standing. It also happened in 2008 and 2000.
I love Ted but do not think he has a chance. All the talk (OUR talk, to be frank) about how Obama was a mistake because he was too young and an inexperienced one-time Senator will come back to haunt us and be thrown back into our faces.
The Rovian idea of dividing conservatives and thus electing RINOs holds merit because he has succeeded threes time running.
I don't want it to be four.
So quit trying to taint concerned conservatives as myself (whose bona fides goes back to 1999 here at FR) and point your guns at the enemy...the Democrats.
OK?
See the above post.
We were “shut out” because of the circular firing squad and good guys destroying each other. Candidates dropped out and i had a choice of Mitt, Paul, and Santorum. Voted Santorum.
We can’t repeat the circular firing squad. Target is Jeb.
What “good guys”? I recall a plethora of RINOs vying for the candidacy in 2012. Not a strong conservative with moral backbone was in sight.
If it hadn't been you posting, I wouldn't have bothered given any explanation at all.
