Usually, when people talk about diesel from plants, they usually refer to “biodiesel”—a completely different liquid. The effect is similar to ethanol in gasoline: engine damage, and lower energy content per unit of volume.
Biodiesel is literally one step removed from common kitchen grease, or vegetable oil, depending on the original source.
Which obviously runs right down to the food vs. fuel debate—at least industrial hemp has other uses...
