Do Israelis Really Think the U.S. Will Come to Their Aid?
Gatestone Institute ^ | March 15, 2015 | Bassam Tawil

There is about to be a mistake. The only country in the region of which all the other countries are envious -- for opportunity, equal justice under law, freedom to speak without the 2 a.m. knock on the door -- has an election this week. Its citizens are tired of war -- right on schedule for its enemies' plans to destroy it. The Israelis are meant to be tired of war; that is why it is called "a war of attrition."

Many Israelis seem to be counting on some deeply wished-for love from the current U.S. Administration. What they may not want to see is that their unrequited love for the U.S. runs far deeper than any disagreement with Israel's current prime minister. Just ask Syria, ask Iraq, ask Yemen, ask Libya, ask Saudi Arabia, ask the Emirates, ask Kuwait, ask Egypt. The current U.S. Administration does not even send weapons to help; it sends meals-ready-to-eat, perhaps with the occasional unserious bombing, and tells others to do any serious work themselves. Israel and the rest of us in the region -- as Iran has already encircled all the oil fields and is now taking over Iraq -- have no more to look forward to than that.

It’ll all be better when that’s gone.

Not sure what you mean, but anyone who doesn’t think the US supports Israel is a moron.

I know the “advice” the U.S. has given Israel in its wars. Not sure if “support.”

If the US will not come to the aid of Israel in a nuclear war crisis with Iran, then Israel will have to use whatever assets they have at their disposal.

No nation would accept defeat & annihilation as long as they have weapons to defend themselves & to retaliate against an attack.

That could very well be nuclear weapons.

I suspect the next use of nukes will be the start of WWIII, as the nuclear fallout will spread in all directions, killing thousands to millions of people in the area. Russia borders Iran, as does Pakistan. Both have nukes & both would be royally PO’ed to be the victim of Israeli nukes. China is not much farther down wind.

I think Russia, Putin in particular, would go ballistic - literally. The fallout from Russian thermonuclear weapons would then spread to NATO countries & around the world, bringing other countries into the war. American citizens & military would be caught in the line of fire & die in droves.

And there you have it: Worldwide thermonuclear war. The supposedly civilized world could end in a matter of days & there is no one who could stop it.

Once the first mushroom cloud appears, those with nukes will want to launch quickly against their enemies as preemptive attack is the only possible way for one’s country to possibly survive. If Putin attacks Israel with nukes, he will probably attack the US as well as he cannot be sure the US would not come to Israel’s aid.

The only sure way to avoid this scenario is to stop the aggressor Iran before it has nuclear weapons & the means to deliver them to Israel.

Yes, the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
killed "thousands of millions of people" (those are your words).
And made the land uninhabitable for generations!!!!

Hiroshima today:

Nagasaki today:

Uh, no, not my words. My post said "killing thousands to millions of people" - copied from my post, italics inserted for your visual benefit.

And I made no mention of the land being uninhabitable.

Actually, I have read that the land is habitable as soon as 3 - 4 weeks after an explosion.

I've been a passionate supporter of Israel since I was a little kid in the 1950’s - from a devoutly Lutheran family, by the way.

I'm already on record saying I will walk away - politically and militarily - from Israel if they elect the Zionist Union on Tuesday. The ZU is a coalition of Arab parties, of Socialists, and of radical Left Jewish pacifists.

I am through wasting my time, my energy, my emotions, and my money on a country that keeps trying to commit suicide.

How sick must a population be to participate in their own murder. Politicians who do this must be planning to rule over the bones of their citizens from somewhere protected and far away.

Are you talking about Israel or the United States?

Obama will lead the Israelis to the cliff and push them over. Obama has worked hard to protect Iran and give it time to finish its nuclear weapons program and he is not about to allow Israel to mess up his plans for a vast expansion of radical Islam into a world threatening Caliphate. It will indeed be sad to watch the Israeli Left eagerly participate in their own destruction

Funny-odd thing is, I remember reading predictions in the Jehovah's witnesses' cartoon-magazine The Watchtower (that they always left lying around in places where people were trapped with time to kill) back in 1974 that sounded very much like these things. About a great "man of peace" who would betray Israel and force her to fight for her life and her God in a place called Armageddon.

Perhaps people keep looking for the same chiliastic interpretations of everyday news that seem to point to The Eschaton.
